This recipe for herbed soft cheese is so easy, entertaining or pot lucking becomes a SNAP! And it is so basic, you can accessorize it any way you choose!
Recipe:
-
Cream a 1/2 block of softened cream cheese. While you prep your ingredients you can leave the cream cheese out at room temperature to soften.
-
Add 3 heaping spoons of sour cream. You're looking for consistency here. Once blended together, this should be like a dip consistency. If it is too thick (like cream cheese) add more sour cream, but you do not want it to be too runny (like sour cream).
-
Squeeze in the juice of a few lemon wedges and add a little lemon zest.
-
Stir in chopped fresh garden herbs - chive, dill, rosemary, thyme - whatever you have!
-
Shake in salt and pepper to taste.
That's it! Here are some ideas for alterations:
-
If you prefer, you may swap goat cheese for cream cheese.
-
For a little punch, throw in some blue cheese crumbles.
-
If you want, you may also add chopped edible flower petals for extra pizzazz - we like pizzazz!
Now, lets discuss ways in which you can use this herbed soft cheese.
Scoop it into a piping bag (Ziplock, cut off the tip of the corner) and pipe the herbed soft cheese into:
-
Clean, dry nasturtium blossoms for the perfect bite! .
-
A clean mason jar to use as a dip.
-
Baked phyllo shells and garnish with edible flowers or fresh herb clippings.
The possibilities are endless and all of them are equally as simple! Just because we're not throwing summer dinner parties doesn't mean you can't whip something up to make your day a little more bright. And when we are all able to gather together again, you will have an effortless, crowd pleasing recipe in your arsenal!
Cheers!
